Protect your investment by giving your new grass seed the care it needs to grow strong. The most important step after overseeding is proper watering and maintenance.

Watering for Germination: Unlike established lawns, new seeds require light and frequent watering. Keep the seeded areas consistently moist by watering 1 to 2 times daily for the first 10 to 14 days. Once the new grass is about an inch tall, transition to deeper, less frequent watering to encourage strong, deep roots. Aim to water during cooler daily temperatures. We recommend the early morning and the evening as the sun goes down.

Minimize Traffic: Keep heavy foot traffic, kids, and pets off the freshly seeded areas for at least 3 to 4 weeks while the fragile new roots establish themselves.

Wait Before You Mow: Hold off on mowing until the new seedlings are 3 to 4 inches tall. When you do mow, make sure your blades are sharp, so they cut cleanly rather than tear the delicate new shoots.

Eliminate Competition: Hand-pick young weeds as they appear. Doing this eliminates competition and gives your new grass the space and nutrients it needs to thrive.

Extra Soil: If you notice exceptionally deep or stubborn bare patches, you can add extra soil to those specific areas for an added boost and to protect against hungry birds.
